What is Dental Implant Restoration?
Dental implant restoration in St. Cloud MN replaces missing natural teeth with artificial ones attached to an implant. Of all types of restoration available to you, dental implants look, function, and feel the most like your natural teeth.
Step-by-Step Guide to Receiving Dental Implants
If you have one or more missing teeth or know that you need to have teeth extracted in the future, we encourage you to request a consultation with Dr. Freisz to learn more about dental implants. During the first appointment, Dr. Freisz inspects your jaws, gums, and remaining teeth to determine if you are a good candidate for implants.
The best candidates for dental implants are non-smokers who are in good health and have a strong enough bone structure surrounding the missing teeth to support implant posts. If your bone structure is weak in one area of your mouth, Dr. Freisz can usually transfer small bone fragments from another area or use donor bone to strengthen the gums near the dental implant area.
Placement of Implant Posts
The first step after you decide to go ahead with the procedure is for Dr. Freisz to place an implant post for each new artificial tooth you plan to receive. If you are missing all of your natural teeth, he can do a procedure called All-on-4 where he places four implant posts in the upper and lower jaws to support a full set of replacement teeth.
The implant post is small, thin, and made of titanium. You need to wait several weeks to a few months for your jaw to heal after having the posts installed. The implant posts need to merge with your existing bone in a process known as osseointegration before proceeding to the next step.
Abutment and Artificial Tooth Placement
Once your jaw has had a chance to heal, you return to Freisz Family and Cosmetic Dentistry for the final step. Dr. Freisz first attaches an abutment on top of your gum line, which is a piece that holds the replacement tooth in place. He finishes the procedure by screwing the artificial tooth into the abutment.
